Please take a stand and contact your congressman/woman and tell them to vote NO on HB 875!!! It is called the Food Modernization Act and it is seriously bad news! I'm posting some links where you can read about it further and a link that can direct you to an easy-peasy contact form for your Rep. Basically, the bill gives governmental control over ALL of our food. Yup, even your backyard gardens.
Let me break it down a little as to what will happen if this bill is passed:
- All seeds will be biochemically engineered. No more heritage seeds. Nothing pure. Altered seeds only.
- EVERYONE falls under federal inspection and mandates if selling or GIVING away any type of food product. We're talking veggies, fruit, eggs, beef, pork, chicken, EVERYTHING!
- EVERYONE must use a federally mandated pesticide! NO more ORGANIC food!!! And isn't it funny that a pesticide company is helping to "fund" this bill through.
- Your local Farmer's Market will likely be non-existent. Surprise, surprise! Big food companies like Tyson are pushing this through as quickly and quietly as possible.
- If you give someone food from your garden and you can't prove you jumped through the Feds' hoops and the person who ate your food gets sick, you can go to jail for 10 YEARS or have a 1 MILLION dollar fine!!!
It so ludicrous that it sounds like I am making this up, but it is true. Check it out yourselves and then phone and/or e-mail your representative and spread the word to everyone you know! Even if people don't personally care about farming or gardening, they SHOULD care about Big Brother taking over yet another freedom. Hurry! The vote will take place within the next two weeks!
